It's a Pencil Shadow Not a Powder, I Told Myself-NARS Calabria

Pin It Okay, I fell off the wagon and bought this "shadow" pencil after my semi-official eyeshadow buying ban. What stupid reasoning am I using?  I figured since it wasn't in pressed powder tablet form it would be okay.  Yeah, just like saying to a recovering alcoholic--go ahead, eat those rum-soaked cake balls, they are in cake form! 

Anyway, this is a NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencil ($24USD) in Calabria.  Described as a shimmering plum, I would say there is a touch of wine to it and leans a bit towards the burgundy.  The texture applies smoothly onto the lids without any dryness.  The formula is not one of those long lasting ones but a wax mixed with oil.  Yes, it can crease.  However, I have been having good luck with these cream based products lately and it could be my application process. 

Here is the process in the following pictures.  I apply the pencil on top of smudge proof base; blend it out; the pencil with the color alone.

What makes it stay for me is eyeshadow on top of it.  Just apply and blend.  Added some eyeliner and a simple eye look.

For some of you especially with oily lids I suggest this: before you apply any smudge proof eyeshadow base, wipe your eye area FIRST with a non-oily eye makeup remover THEN apply the eyeshadow base for better adherence.  See if that improves the wear time.

I find this NARS pencil handy for its pencil form but find it disappointing that it isn't retractable.  Yes, you need a pencil sharpener with this one.  More messy shavings to deal with.  Still, a great quality pencil.
