Disappointment and Criticism for Into the Palette

Pin It Recently, I have disappointed someone,  LeahB. on my tutorial for Into the Palette.  Here is her comment:

Unfortunately, this tutorial is useless because the images look like they are from a SIMS character. People can't even see how the makeup would actually lay on real skin so it's of little help. You have some nice techniques, but they need to be applied to a real person for people to truly see the impact. I'm disappointed.

Leah I am deeply sorry for your disappointment.  As an old woman close to middle age and whose years on this earth is getting more limited each day, I find your remark true yet a bit selfish.  I do those tutorials mostly for my gain.  I want to learn how to use Photoshop and GIMP.  Knowing that my brain cells are not regenerating at the rate they used to in my teens and 20's, I find that doing is better than reading a book on photo retouching.  I learn faster this way and at my age I feel damn proud of myself that I can still learn!

To say they look like SIMS characters is a bit of a compliment because in my day everything looked like Atari Pong characters.  This means my skills are an improvement to what had been done in the past.  You are saying they are close to CGI quality.

I am sorry that I don't do it on real skin for the reason that people wouldn't find the patience to sit through my many detailed picture sessions.  I for one would go crazy and would probably drive them crazy from the many long hours.  Thus, the reason for using pictures from regular people from all over the world.  But before you say this is of little help, please tell all those cosmetic companies to stop doing makeup on drawn face charts and drawn eye charts because paper is so different from actual skin that it is of little help.  Yet, those charts are there as a guide or to give ideas which I am doing in my tutorials.

Again, I am sorry Leah that you are disappointed but you shouldn't be because you aren't the one who has sacrificed the hours and days to Photoshop, edit, and write the tutorial.  I am disappointed that you don't, at least, appreciate the time I have taken to share what I like to do like many bloggers do on the net.  If you did, you would think twice about disappointing yourself.

As for anyone else, I appreciate each of you readers because without you looking, lurking, or reading my blogs; I would be writing for a group of chirping crickets.   I LOVE YOU ALL!!
