No Lies about Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster

*Post originally written by Olivia J on The Unknown Beauty Blog. If you read this post elsewhere, it has been stolen.*

When I think of truth serum, immediately I think of those spy movies where sodium pantethol is used to interrogate the spy, under the relaxed state the spy blurts out truths about his life and mission.  Nothing like Hollywood fiction to make one believe a drug can have such a smooth outcome.  But is Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster the sodium pantethol of skincare or is it just another skin care product with some fictional truth?

First and foremost, I have to thank Beauty Bay for this product.  I won it from them on Twitter.  If you aren't familiar with Beauty Bay, it is a beauty etailer based in the UK.  It offers many beauty products from haircare, skincare, makeup, and more from well known brands including RMK cosmetics.  The site also offers free worldwide delivery

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster ($48USD- 1 oz.) is a serum used right after cleansing and right before the moisturizer.  The product is an anti-aging serum and can be used on all skin types.  This is how the product is described:

Like a daily vitamin for your face, this high powered vitamin C complex helps smooth out lines and wrinkles and prevents further damage. Loaded with antioxidants to fight off environmental aggressors and moisture-binding ingredients to keep your skin nourished and protected, this aromatic serum is absorbed instantly and penetrates to the deeper layers of the skin to provide long term results. Sensitive skin prone to irritation will benefit immensely from the calming properties of this oil-free serum.

     ingredient benefits
  • Grapefruit and orange extract Purifying, astringent, brightening

  • Green tea extract Protects against damage with antioxidants

  • Licorice extract Evens out skin tone

  • Rosehips extract Repairs and strengthens with concentrated vitamin C

  • Sodium hyaluronate Binds moisture to the skin

  • Vitamin C Calms, heals and strengthens collagen
  • Vitamin E Heals, restores and nourishes

The first squirt of this product, I had a weirdest flashback--PEZ!  I think the sweet scent of the product triggered my nerves of addiction.  The scent of this truth serum is similar to the PEZ I ate when I was a little girl!  For those of you worried about the scent lingering, don't be for it quickly dissipates.  That being said, I have become addicted to applying this every night.  The formula is like a liquid gel, nothing oily but not exactly thin and watery.  There is no slick feeling on the skin nor any dry or tight one, definitely a formula that works on all skin types and especially good for oily skin.  I have normal to dry and admit this can't, at least, for me be used as a stand alone serum.  I have to follow it with a moisturizer.

The serum does help in reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles and it does boost the moisture affect of any moisturizer used with it.  There have been no irritating tingles with this product.  It does have a slight soothing affect but not in a mentholated way, just a smooth and light application type of way.  The serum doesn't feel heavy on the skin.

What do I think about this serum?  It does a decent job and I would say for what is now summer for me, this one is just right.  For winter, I would find this a bit on the light side when it comes to its moisturizing booster properties and therefore would find this not to be as effective.  I do have one gripe though, I use this only at night because if I used this under makeup, the serum tends to pill up.  Otherwise, this is a decent serum that will keep the skin protected from dehydration and leave it looking moisturized without the look of oiliness.
