My first major makeup purchase of 2014 is my Wantable January box. Actually, it is the last purchase of 2013 since it came before the New Year. I was actually surprised and happy for having new makeup. After all, I could wear the new stuff for New Year's Eve. But it did not turn out that way.
The January box supposedly featured new products for the New Year: Sormé, Mistura, Dex New York, and La Bella Donna.
This is what I received:
Eveline Eyeliner Marker ($10.99)- A felt-tip marker which I had been yearning to try.
Starlooks Gem Pencil in Myth ($14)- This appears to be a silver taupe. I am not quite sure. I have tried Starlooks pencil in Fancy which you can check out here.
Sormé Under Foundation Makeup Enhancer sample
Yes, I got a sample of one of the new featured brands!
My box also contained the following products and the reason why I didn't open the other makeup to show.
Michael Marcus Prime Foundation Brush - I received this brush in my November box.
Only then, on the receipt the brush was priced at $36. Now, it is $20.
Then, there are the other two products.
Girlactik Beauty Eye Glaze in Lilac $18 - I received the same color as last month. I wouldn't have mind it so much if I had received a different color to expand my collection. No wait, I would have because this is the third month receiving a Girlactik Eye Glaze. I received one in my November box also and the exact same one in my December.
Starlooks Lengthening Mascara $16 - This one I received last month also.
My New Year with my Wantable started with a combination pack of my November and December months! I wasn't happy at all! If I had known January would be calculated to be this way, I would have skipped this month. But, how could I since I thought January would have been a start of new products for the upcoming year of 2014.
Even though this box was valued at $78.99, it wasn't worth $36 for me because it felt like the fun energy in it was lost. What went wrong? Honestly, when I opened the box and saw the products, I felt like bad makeup karma had hit me. I got the short end of the stick, receiving what was leftover. Do I free myself from the monthly subscription ties for a while? Do I skip a few months to wait for new products?
Disappointment aside, I still have to state that Wantable has a great concept in the makeup field. Trying full size products at a subscription price of $36 or $40 for one time is fabulous. The only tough part for them is to find a way of offering new products for each person each month. Duplicates will occur. But for me, to have three out of the five products to be exactly the same has to be magnificent odds. Odds I wish I could carry over to Vegas. Unfortunately, odds are disappointing; I am regretfully returning this box for a refund.
I give the box 2 eyes this month. One for my extreme gratitude and respect towards the company and especially Stuart McMullin (@StuMcMullin) the Marketing Manager at Wantable who actually tweets back to the customers! Two because it is still the best monthly makeup box available.
