When I got the Joe Blasco Corrective Pro Touch Highlighters, I have to say that they really didn't impress me much. The screw top container housed a pressed tablet of color (36mm), one in lemon yellow - Yellow Protouch and the other in a creamy orange - Orange Protouch.
They didn't look like the usual highlighting colors that I see at cosmetic counters, none of that light diffusing shimmer to them. How can these highlight the skin? Let me just say that if you want a highlighter with no shimmer yet looks like your skin had been shaped by the perfect lighting guys in Hollywood, get these!

Like I mentioned, these do not contain any shimmer or glitter which means they are mature skin friendly. It is a satin matte powder which never looks chalky or dry that works with your skin tone to provide a natural looking highlight. The yellow is for fair to medium skin tones and the orange is for medium dark to dark skin tones. For the darkest of skin tones, I suggest the blush in Joe Blasco Natural Cream. These can be used anywhere on the face from eyes, cheeks, and lips. Used around the lips, this will highlight and bring the lips forward and also prevent your lipstick from bleeding. (More on this in a future post.) If you found highlighting the inner corner of the eyes not quite right, this could work for you, also can be used on the outer corners to give the illusion of lifting a droopy eye. You can also use the yellow to get rid of redness on the skin and the orange to get rid of any blue or dark circles under the eyes.
Application can be done three ways. You can apply it dry with a brush or sponge straight onto clean skin or prepped foundation skin; wet-mixed with water; or mixed with glycerin if you have dry skin (this also gives some natural looking luster). You can see in the picture below that I have showed the swatches in various forms and left a comparison of my skin. In the Yellow Protouch, I used one of my usual foundations: Joe Blasco in Warm Olive 1 which is a light color. In the Orange Protouch I used Julie Hewett Creme Foundation in Zazu, a dark color to show how the protouch highlights dark skin tones.
I usually apply this after foundation or after having applied a cream highlighter and when I want a stronger highlighting effect. A soft sweep of the brush is all that is needed dry. Since, it is a pro product, a little goes a long way. Remember, to look at your face a few steps back from the mirror to see the full effect. It should give your face dimension. If you find it too powdery when applied dry, just go over it with a damp sponge. Do not forget, this is an excellent eyeshadow also. So, if you were to buy the eyeshadows, don't forget the protouch highlighters!
