Guiding Your Face

Makeup can be easier if you know where the guides on your face are located. With these guides, they help you define the areas on your face to make it look more balanced, symmetrical, and dimensional. You really don't need to think about the shape of your face since these guides are working with your face and is only customized for you.

In the two drawings the dots are shown in the front view and side view. There are three main sections that are helpful when it comes to the guide points: top - hairline, ears, and bottom - jawline.

Center

The center is the gray dots. It isn't necessarily just the tip of the nose but rather the nose itself. The nose in a way creates a 3D persective guide to the face and it is also the highest plane of the face.

Top - Hairline

The hairline is calculated by the growth of the hair. If you look at your own, you can pretty much see where the front area would be (red dots), Your hair would fall forward. If you are bald, it is right at the very end of the eyeball if you look straight.

The lavender dots are aligned with that hair that kinda makes a corner. I don't know how to explain it but it is at the temple and sits a few inches above the brow. Sometimes, the area between the red and lavender dot has a lot of those baby wisps. This was the case for Rita Hayworth and she went through painful electrolysis to rid of it and to change the shape of her visible facial plane.

Ears

The ears are a pretty important spot for makeup. They are the center like the nose. The yellow and blue dots are the top of the ear and the bottom. The center of the ear where there is that little tab, that is another guide but really not used for the average makeup citizen.

The Jawline

The purple is corner of the jaw. It is also the furthest back on the face, basically a back facial plane. The green dot is the chin area.

You can see that the dots travel the different facial planes from the highest which is the nose to the furthest back which is the ear area. This is also same for the male face and if you are bald, it is still the same and it really continues all the way around but for the average makeup person. The face is where the guides will be concentrated.

Just take these points into account and in future postings, I will try to incorporate them into tutorials.

A quiet little corner of beauty.
