C-Food & K-Food: Asian Oreos

This post is a bit different. It is about Chinese and Korean versions of the ever-popular Oreo cookies.

I have to admit when I was just a wee lassie, I only liked the cream center. I would split the cookie open and just gnaw out the cream. The cookie just tasted like cardboard to me, not that I ate cardboard but it was a similar texture. Then, Oreo created Double Stuff which had twice the cream center. You can guess who loved those. I actually ate too much one time and had a really bad stomach ache. This was after my mom warned me not to eat too many! I think I stopped my Oreo binge after that.

Fast forward. I haven't had Oreos in decades, especially since the US version tends to be cloyingly sweet. I swear they got more sweet each decade up to the millenium and then when the 21st century came around, they decided it wasn't sweet enough and changed the sugar to high fructose which makes me gag!

So, I haven't had Oreos until now. But, these are ASIAN versions and I AM ADDICTED!

I bought 6 flavors: Birthday Cake, Mint Choco, Strawberry Cream, Blueberry and Raspberry, Cinnamon Bun, and White Peach. I chose the safe flavors. There is also a Mushroom flavor and Mugwort which I think is similar to Hibiscus and Jasmine. I might try that next time. There is also some cheese flavor ones. Asians like to mix cheese into a lot of things like yogurt and ice cream!

Okay, back to the Oreos.

Some are Korean ones and the others are Chinese ones. You can tell the difference by the fonts. Korean always has the round type of look while Chinese is similar to Japanese Kanji, or should I say they are pretty much the same. Japanese mixes Kanji with katakana. That is how you tell. That is the little alphabet lesson for today.

Okay, really back to the Oreos.

These Oreos are sweet enough just to make you wanting more. You know how you eat something and when it is gone, you just want to continue that flavor. That is how it is like with these. There is also none of that awful sweet after taste.

One box contains 2 packs of foil wrapped grouping of 5 Oreos, so you get ten Oreos in total.

Birthday Cake

The usual birthday cake flavor with the little sprinkles. This is the Chinese version. Pretty good, taste like a white cake with white frosting and sprinkles.

Cinnamon Roll

This one is the Korean Oreo. The cinnamon isn't too strong. I had to eat the whole pack to get the "roll" flavor. 😜️

Mint Choco

The mint isn't the refreshing type like an overpowering one. It isn't peppermint either, more of a soft spearmint without that licorice type heaviness. I don't get much of a chocolate flavor or maybe that has to do with the cookie part. I admit, this wasn't one of my favorites. A bit underwhelming. This one is also a Korean flavor.

Strawberry Cream

This one was good for a strawberry cream. The right sweetness with a soft strawberry flavor, kind of like a strawberry ice cream. Another Korean version.

Blueberry and Raspberry

I like this half and half bit. Both flavors work well together, very yummy. Each flavor doesn't overpower the other. I noticed with Chinese Oreos, there is a design on each cookie distinguishing the Chinese heritage. Whereas, Korean ones, like the western ones just say Oreo.

White Peach

This one is one of my favorites. The peach flavor is soft like a white peach. Just enough flavor to want more!

There are many flavors to try. Yes, again I bought these from Yami (referral link). The site has many flavors to offer including matcha which is another favorite of mine and they also offer a mushroom flavor which I haven't had the bravery to try yet. Currently, they have a new one, Pistachio and cheese. Hmmmm! Again, if you place an order, don't forget to tick the box "fulfilled by Yami" to get your order from one place and no tariffs. Quick delivery.

Hope you enjoy the Oreos as much as I do!

A quiet little corner of beauty.
