Japanese pencil cases are in a category of their own. They are well organized bags with little slots, pockets, and elastic bands to hold your pens, pencils, erasers, tape, paper, etc. They organize everything neatly, and I often wondered why cosmetic cases were never made like these bags.
Most of the cosmetic bags that I have bought do not organize as much as they should; they just have one or two zippered sections or flaps that hold your brushes or just regular zippered sections where you just stuff everything into it. Not really any organization because in the end you just dump everything onto the counter and often, if you are traveling, you will be missing an item because unknowingly it rolled off the bathroom counter--usually it is your most prized item too.
This is a Dr. Ion Super Mega Pencil Case which I bought at Jetpens which ships internationally. I have been waiting for this case for ages! I signed up for an email notification for this product in February and finally they got stock in late June. I bought one right away because these go quickly and take a long time to restock since they come straight from Japan.
The case comes in two colors black and beige (also in blue but not in stock anymore) and measures 8.5 x 5.3 x 3.2 inches (21.5 x 13.5 x 8 cm) and costs $36USD. The case is made from rip-stop fabric with a sturdy frame-it keeps its shape with nothing in it. It has two zipper compartments with double zippers. One side uses the length of the case for storage while the other side uses the width.
The following picture shows one side of the case empty. You can see that it has a mesh zippered pocket and flap with loops which are sewn onto a mesh pocket. Lift the flap up and stick the velcro tab and it reveals an area that can house palettes, compacts, and such. The elastic bands can keep pencils, brushes, or any other stuff in place.
The large Z Palette does fit into it but I admit that it is somewhat of a slightly tight fit, just don't overstuff the bag.
The other side of the bag has smaller pockets that can house various other items. The mesh pocket lifts up to reveal another pocket-pretty handy for a puff. And, the large pocket that is closed by a velcro flap can house eyelash curlers, setting sprays, etc.
Yes, this is a great bag for travel and for taking what you really need which can be hard to decide. This won't hold your whole collection (if you have more than I pictured). However, for that touch of organization, this bag is great and compact!
