I hope my definitive guide to eyeshadow is more simplified and easier to understand. I also hope it helps you organize your eyeshadows better. In this post, I discuss the contrasting colors of black and white eyeshadows.
Contrasting Colors
You should always have a highlighting color; a color about two shades lighter than your natural skin tone. One can be in the form of a cream/liquid to highlight the face and one as a powder to use as an eyeshadow.
A highlighting color gives a sharp contrast or drama to an eye look quickly and easily. It also can be used to define a crease better or by giving light to deep set eyes.
A matte black eyeshadow is always needed if you want that dramatic smoky eye for evening. As I said, matte colors when layered upon shimmer will end up shimmery anyway. And, matte colors are more concentrated in color. As always, black comes in handy as a cake eyeliner.
White
The many places to put the highlighting color on the eyes will change the shape and look of the eyes.
Black
As an eyeshadow, matte black can be used on the entire lid area and up to the orbital ridge or just certain parts of the eyes.
Matte black can also be used to emphasize the depth and the orbital ridge.

Next post, how it all comes together.
