Remember when makeup primers first came out? Remember that clear silicone gel you applied onto your face to create that smooth canvas? Remember how it added an extra layer between your makeup and skin? Oh wait, are you still using the old-fashioned goopy primers? If you are, it is time for you to switch to the spray on primer created by Skindinavia.
Skindinavia, a brand that is well known for its Finishing Spray has created another great and much needed product -- The Makeup Primer Spray. (4 oz-$35; 8 oz-$49)
Not only does The Makeup Primer Spray provide all the needs of the usual "old-fashion" primer, it also formulated to be the following:
- lightweight
- breathable
- silicone free
- non-aerosol spray
- paraben free
- comes in 2 formulas: all skin types and oil-control
After testing this out, I can tell you this has been the only primer which felt like a refreshing mist of water on my face! It effectively primes the skin for a smooth application of makeup. What it doesn’t do is create the feeling of that extra layer of product between the skin and makeup.
How to Apply
First shake well. Then just spray. You might think it would spray large beads of primer onto the face. It doesn’t. One pump sprays a micro-fine mist of primer which not only primes the skin but has ingredients which refresh and energize the skin with a cooling effect! To completely cover the face it is suggested to apply 3 to 4 sprays in an “X” and “T” form.
I apologize for not having better pictures of the actual product on my skin. But, here is an example of my forehead with the product with and without. I used a foundation, then powdered just to see how the result would be. Maybe, you can't see it to well but look closely and you will see how the foundation and powder sits more smoothly with the primer than without.
What you can't see and I can only explain is with this primer, you use less foundation because it already provides a smooth barrier on the skin to allow the makeup to spread easier and faster.
What It Does
- Primes the skin
- Diffuses the appearance of pores and lines
- Keeps the skin fresh looking
- Little to no blotting as the day wears on
My Thoughts
This is a non-silicone based primer (aka water-based), it works with all types of makeup including silicone. BUT it might not work well with silicone based airbrush foundation. However, if you use water-based airbrush foundation, then you have no problem.
As for the non-airbrush people, I have tested this out with silicone based, cream based, water-based, and loose powder. All work out well.
After using this Skindinavia The Makeup Primer Spray, I can’t look at another primer in a gel form. There is no need for those especially when a spray form is available and able to provide smoothness in the thinnest layer all the while refreshing the skin and allowing it to look that way all day. Why waste time with yesterday’s formula when you can have future? There are special sets you can get which offer a great discount!
